Cape Town Plans Major Power Outages for Langa and Bellville Maintenance
CAPE TOWN — 23 August 2025
The City of Cape Town will conduct 10-hour electricity maintenance in Langa on Thursday, 28 August, from 8:00 to 18:00. A separate nine-hour outage is planned for parts of Bellville in September.
The Langa outage affects Bitterhout, Rubusana, Ndabeni, Harlem, and Bhunga. Residents can view the outage map at: https://bit.ly/45oqH8c (City of Cape Town).
Bellville’s outage on either 18 or 25 September (7:30-16:30) will impact Kanonberg, Oude Westhof, Van Riebeeckhof, Welgedacht, and Protea Valley. The outage map is available at: https://bit.ly/4okkvqF (City of Cape Town).
The City warned electricity supply “could be restored at any time” during maintenance periods. Residents should treat all electrical installations as live (City statement).
“Residents are encouraged to switch off appliances as a precaution and to avoid damage caused by power surges when the power comes back on,” the municipality advised.
The City apologised for inconvenience and thanked residents for their cooperation (City statement).
