Search for Durban Pilot Andrew Blackwood-Murray Continues

Search Continues for Pilot Missing After Durban Aerobatic Crash

Rescue teams found no sign of missing pilot Andrew Blackwood-Murray on Sunday during ongoing coastal searches after his aircraft crashed near Suncoast Beach in Durban last week.

Authorities confirmed the SAA and aerobatic pilot went missing when his light plane crashed during a display at the Next Generation of Aviation Professionals Global Summit (NSRI statement).

Despite intensive scanning of the North Coast, police divers and multiple agencies haven’t located the 61-year-old or his aircraft remnants (NSRI statement).

Weather conditions enabled continuous operations involving NSRI Durban and Umhlanga, SA Navy, SAPS Air Wing, Aeronautical Rescue Coordination Centre, and investigators (multi-agency coalition).

The public must immediately report any plane debris seen along the coast to Police emergency (10111), NSRI Operations Centre (087 094 9774) or marine VHF radio channels (authority request).

Blackwood-Murray’s family receives ongoing support as aviation colleagues pay tribute at Battery Beach, calling him a “world-class aviator and true gentleman” (community reports).

Editor’s note: The specific date of the NSRI’s Sunday statement was unconfirmed in source materials.
