JOHANNESBURG — August 2025
South African music is setting global trends with Tyla and DJ Maphorisa topping Spotify’s 2025 Global Impact List of most-streamed local songs internationally.
The list highlights 30 tracks proving Mzansi’s sound isn’t just popular—it transforms worldwide music scenes through powerful collaborations.
Tyla dominates with three tracks: her crossover hit “Show Me Love” with WizTheMc, sultry solo track “Bliss”, and the chart-topping “PUSH 2 START” remix featuring Sean Paul and Davido.
DJ Maphorisa leads the Amapiano charge with five entries including “Abantwana Bakho” with Kabza De Small and Nkosazana Daughter, “Uyaphapha Marn” with Scotts Maphuma, and club anthem “Sangena” featuring Toss.
Spotify’s Head of Music for Sub-Saharan Africa Phiona Okumu said: “The 2025 Global Impact List proves that when collaboration fuels creativity, South African music becomes an unstoppable force. We’re not just seeing global reach — we’re seeing global influence.”
A music industry analyst stated the list confirms South African artists are evolving from international features to becoming global headliners in their own right.
These achievements solidify the unstoppable rise of local sounds reshaping international playlists from New York to Tokyo.
