Singer Jelly Babie embraces traditional healing calling, keeps music
MABOPANE —
Music artist Jelly Babie has accepted her spiritual calling as a traditional healer after two years of hesitation. The 19-year-old from Mabopane told Sunday World she still plans to continue her music career alongside her healing journey.
During her interview, she explained her commitment to both paths: “Music is my passion; how can I stop making music? My ancestors know. Music is my other gift.”
The singer’s personal life included hurdles like her 11-month marriage to Koketso Shibambu ending in separation. Earlier, she dated the late musician Itumeleng “Vusi Ma R5” Mosoeu, performing with him at Tshwane nightclubs since she was 15.
Her partner was shot dead outside Legentsheng tavern in Soshanguve in January 2023. Reports state he was attacked near his car in Extension 13, with friends finding him after hearing gunshots (Sunday World).
Following his funeral, Jelly Babie left school while in Grade 11.
