Kaya 959 Suspends Presenter Sol Phenduka With Immediate Effect

Radio personality Sol Phenduka has been suspended from Kaya 959 with immediate effect. The station confirmed this decision on Wednesday, 20 August, confirming he’ll be off air from Thursday, 21 August (station statement).

No official reason was provided for the suspension, with Kaya 959 citing an ongoing internal process: “At this stage, no further details can be shared, but we will keep you informed as soon as there are developments” (station statement).

In their announcement, the station emphasized: “We want to assure all staff that the matter is being handled with fairness, sensitivity and due process” (station statement). They appealed for professionalism and understanding during this period.

The DJ, real name Solomzi Phenduka, co-hosts the station’s breakfast show with Sizwe Dhlomo, Nosipho Radebe, and Mpho Maboi. Before this team formed, he worked alongside Dineo Ranaka, who was fired under circumstances described as controversial (unverified).

Phenduka joined Kaya 959 in 2022 and built a strong listener base with his humor and radio presence. His abrupt suspension has shocked fans.

The breakfast show will continue without Phenduka while Kaya 959 concludes its internal process.
