Muizenberg beachfront parking area reopens amid upgrades
CAPE TOWN — 2025
The City of Cape Town has reopened the eastern parking area at Muizenberg beachfront near the Civic Centre. The site is accessible despite minor ongoing construction work.
The reopening forms part of a multi-phase upgrade to replace aging seawalls and improve public amenities along the popular coastline. Alderman Eddie Andrews, Deputy Mayor and Mayoral Committee Member for Spatial Planning and Environment, confirmed the development.
“We know how important the parking areas are at this very popular beachfront, and I’m delighted to let the public know that the eastern parking area in front of the Muizenberg Civic Centre, on the beachside, is open for use.”
“Visitors will enjoy the newly paved area and improvements, though soft landscaping and final touches are still to follow.”
Heavy rains delayed some construction, but the project remains on schedule. The first phase beginning February 2025 focuses on transforming a gravel lot into formal parking on the western side of Surfer’s Corner, though that section remains closed.
The City confirmed the St James Walkway will reopen in time for the festive season. Beachgoers now have improved access while contractors complete remaining upgrades (City statement).
