Asavela Mqokiyana Shares Divorce Pain and Motherhood Healing
28 July 2025
Actress Asavela Mqokiyana has revealed her painful journey through divorce while raising an infant, calling it one of her toughest life tests.
In a candid interview on “Mommy Diaries with Pasi Koetle,” the former Isibaya star shared her experience of parenting through marital breakdown: “It’s hard navigating that alone because it wasn’t the plan. The plan was to be a two-parent household. I didn’t have that, so trying to build that for myself for my inner child, and now it’s stripped away. That for me was so hard having to go through my divorce with a six-month-old baby.” (Interview source)
Despite challenges, Mqokiyana found healing through co-parenting: “What has made it a bit easier is that we are fine with her father. He’s always been a great father to his kids, so I never doubted that he could be that for her. In a sense, it does heal me cause I didn’t grow up with my dad.” She added, “She’s a happy child. I think I’ve poured more than I can and she’s healed me as well.” (Interview source)
Mqokiyana married businessman Vuyiswa in 2022 and welcomed her daughter in August 2023. The marriage ended shortly after during her child’s infancy, she confirmed, but maintains hope: “I still believe in love, and I know I will have my family one day.” (Subject statement)
The actress also addressed viral claims she stole her husband from his first wife. “I was in matric, and he was living his whole life. Where are these timelines that I was invited to weddings? I was not even friends with her,” she stated, denying allegations spread by social media accounts in early 2024. (Subject statement)
Reflecting on lessons learned, she acknowledged personal growth challenges: “I learnt patience and to not lead, which is the hardest thing when you have been leading your whole life, and now you need to be submissive.” (Interview source)
Mqokiyana continues co-parenting while focusing on her healing journey and career.
