MultiChoice adds DreamWorks, Nickelodeon to DStv Family for kids’ content boost

MultiChoice has added DreamWorks, Nickelodeon and Nick Jr. to its DStv Family package, expanding children’s entertainment options starting Monday, 25 August 2025. The upgrade aims to position DStv Family as South Africa’s leading destination for family viewing. (company announcement)

Subscribers can access the package for R339 monthly via decoder or R299 monthly for streaming-only access. MultiChoice says the inclusions deliver greater value to mid-tier subscribers while meeting demand for safe, educational, and high-quality children’s programming. (press statement)

The new channels offer popular children’s content: DreamWorks features animated hits like Shrek, Kung Fu Panda and How to Train Your Dragon. Nickelodeon carries shows such as SpongeBob SquarePants, The Loud House and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Nick Jr. provides preschool favourites including Paw Patrol, Dora the Explorer and Blue’s Clues.

This brings DStv Family to 14 dedicated children’s channels alongside existing family entertainment options.

The package supports multi-device streaming through the DStv Stream app, allowing simultaneous viewing across different screens. MultiChoice added Comedy Central, HGTV and Disney Channel to the package earlier in 2025.

Against rising competition from streaming rivals like Netflix, these upgrades form part of MultiChoice’s strategy to retain subscribers through content-rich offerings.
