Lasizwe on SASMA Nominations: “Please Don’t Vote for Me”

Lasizwe Asks Fans Not to Vote for Him in Social Media Awards

TV host Lasizwe Dambuza has requested fans not to vote for him at the upcoming South African Social Media Awards despite receiving three nominations. The awards ceremony is scheduled for 22 November 2025.

The SASMAs recognise influencers and brands using social media creatively. Voting runs until 8 November 2025 (awards statement).

Lasizwe is nominated for African Social Media Star of the Year and Social Media Personality of the Year. His YouTube show “Awkward Dates” is nominated for Popular Content Across All Platforms.

In an Instagram video, Lasizwe stated: “Please don’t vote for me.” He explained: “These three nominations already mean my work is appreciated. That, for me, is a win.”

All SASMA categories require paid voting, with R10 buying four votes. Lasizwe said: “The voting system costs money, and I do not believe you should have to pay to show support. That money could go towards bread, electricity, taxi fare and actual survival.”

He added: “I cannot in good conscience ask you to spend your hard-earned money so I can hold a piece of glass that will collect dust. Your support, your comments, your views, your love. That is the real award.”

Reality TV star Ashley Ogle also features among nominees, competing for Emerging Social Media Personality and Best Newcomer (awards statement).

Public response to Lasizwe’s stance includes praise for his financial consideration towards supporters (social media reactions; unverified). The awards lineup promises a notable event regardless of voting participation.
