KZN Police Commissioner reveals three-step crime reduction plan
KWAZULU-NATAL — 19 August
KwaZulu-Natal’s top police officer has announced a three-step strategy to combat crime and protect communities. Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi unveiled the plan at a stakeholder meeting hosted by the provincial government on Tuesday night.
Mkhwanazi said police must first reduce reported crime cases. He warned that any failure to register legitimate cases would be grounds for dismissal (Mkhwanazi).
Secondly, all police stations must maintain clean audits and account for every cent received (Mkhwanazi).
Thirdly, officers must hold monthly community meetings and provide regular policing updates to improve public satisfaction (Mkhwanazi).
Premier Ntuli urged businesses to partner with police against crime during the engagement. He highlighted drones and CCTV as key tools to boost safety (Ntuli).
Ntuli said: “If we work together, we can change this province. I believe that everything starts with conversation. When the conversation is honest, it becomes easier to confront the challenges we face.”
He added that lasting change requires all stakeholders to unite behind common safety goals.
