Munaka Muthambi apologises for promoting controversial Russian internship

Reality star Munaka Muthambi has apologised for promoting Russia’s Alabuga Start Programme, amid accusations of unethical recruitment tactics targeting young South African women.

The influencer visited Russia through the scheme, which allegedly recruits unemployed South African women aged 18-22 using controversial methods. Local authorities recently warned the public about the programme’s “suspicious activities” (unverified government sources).

Muthambi explained on Instagram that she participated because a trusted South African agency assured her of its legitimacy. “I’ve worked with them on other campaigns. They had credible reviews,” she stated, noting she took a pay cut for the project.

“Travel and empowering people are passions of mine,” she wrote, adding: “I didn’t even get paid a fraction of what I charge… it was never about the money for me.”

The agency provided documentation claiming negative reports were “fake news” (agency statement unverified). Muthambi attached these materials online “for those who want to see.”

Human trafficking concerns emerged publicly after her promotion. Muthambi responded: “Idk how human trafficking entered the chat. I really hope none of that is happening.” She awaits official statements from authorities.

“I am sorry for my role in this,” Muthambi apologised. “Even after what I thought was due diligence… this still happened.”

She concluded by apologising to fans and business partners affected by the controversy while awaiting official clarification about the programme.
