Singer Nomcebo Zikode has ignited social media debate after sharing images of a new Bentley parked outside her home. The “Jerusalema” vocalist posted photos with the luxury vehicle captioned: “Living the life I once prayed for.”
She followed with a TikTok video showcasing the car and her residence, adding: “Sundays are for soft living.” The posts drew congratulations from fans and celebrities celebrating her success.
Some social media users questioned the purchase timing following her recent court loss over unpaid royalties for “Jerusalema”. Instagram user @itss_me190 commented: “Seziphumile izimali ze Jerusalema” (unverified), suggesting funds came from the disputed song. Another user @officialtwinny posted: “Wasn’t she paying lawyers 2 million a month ago” (unverified) referencing legal fees.
Others advised financial caution. User @TomKhosa stated: “I’m giving a cautious congratulations! I hope that Nomcebo starts saving for her future or dry period. We must not see her in the streets asking for support!” while @BhovuRbay noted: “A beautiful car, congratulations to her. Hope she is saving some of her money for rainy days.”
This follows Nomcebo and her label Emazulwini Productions losing a court case against Open Mic Productions about “Jerusalema” royalties. In a statement, she maintained: “I have still not received a single cent, and I am still fighting for my rights. But I will keep on fighting through this pain and exhaustion because we cannot continue excusing the exploitation of artists in this beautiful country. Aluta Continua.” (Open Mic Productions not quoted in source).
Despite the dispute, Nomcebo continues international performances, recently debuting in Gabon. She described the experience: “What an honour and privilege it has been to be welcomed by the Embassy in Gabon! I have seen and learnt so much.”
