
President Ramaphosa Leads Tributes for Journalist Tshidi Madia

President Cyril Ramaphosa has paid tribute to veteran Eyewitness News (EWN) journalist Matshidiso “Tshidi” Madia after her death yesterday. The prominent political editor (42) passed away on 27 August following a sudden illness.
Madia began her career at EWN’s traffic desk before becoming a respected political interviewer known for challenging questions. Tributes have flooded in from public figures and colleagues since her death.
Ramaphosa offered condolences to Madia’s family and colleagues, calling her passing “in the prime of her life”. He stated: “We shall continue to work for Tshidi’s South Africa with her now silent pen and voice in our memories and hearts.”
Politicians across parties honoured Madia’s journalism. The Economic Freedom Fighters noted her “commitment and dedication”, saying: “Madia’s contribution to political journalism will be remembered with respect. May her soul rest in peace.”
Build One South Africa leader Mmusi Maimane called Madia “among the hardest-working journalists in the world”, adding: “It is truly an immeasurable loss to the media community.”
The uMkhonto weSizwe Party described her death as a national loss, stating: “We extend our heartfelt condolences to her family, friends, and the entire media fraternity.”
Ramaphosa highlighted the significance of her passing during Women’s Month, calling Madia “a remarkable citizen and thought leader”.
