Sol Phenduka Denies Wrongdoing After Kaya 959 Suspension
CAPE TOWN
Radio host Sol Phenduka has addressed his suspension from Kaya 959, claiming he “did nothing” wrong. The station suspended him pending an internal investigation but didn’t disclose reasons.
Phenduka (real name Solomzi Phenduka) was suspended on Wednesday, 20 August effective immediately. Kaya 959 stated: “The station is committed to following due process, and no further details will be shared at this stage.” (Kaya 959 statement)
Listeners speculated online that the suspension might link to legal action by Minnie Dlamini over comments made on Podcast and Chill. (unverified social media speculation)
Phenduka responded on Thursday’s Podcast and Chill episode: “This happened this morning. When I left the meeting, they said don’t say anything. So, I don’t say anything because of the confidentiality clause. But I did nothing.” (Podcast and Chill)
Co-host MacG (Macgyver Mukwevho) suggested the station had decided Phenduka’s fate: “Writing is on the wall. It’s quite clear where this is going. But I lasted though.” (Podcast and Chill)
Kaya 959 confirmed handling the matter with “fairness, sensitivity and due process” in a later statement. It added: “At this stage, no further details can be shared, but we will keep you informed as soon as there are developments.” (Kaya 959 statement)
No timeline was given for the internal process. Phenduka maintains his innocence while awaiting the station’s final decision.
