Planned Tshwane substation maintenance to cause Centurion outages

Tshwane’s Kentron Substation will undergo critical maintenance from 19 to 21 August, causing scheduled power cuts in Centurion. The daily outages will run between 08:00-16:00 while technicians upgrade electrical infrastructure.

The City confirmed this work involves transferring power loads to new equipment. “Parts of the substation will be switched off to allow technicians to transfer power load from the substation’s old 11KV board to the newly constructed 11KV board,” Tshwane officials said.

Outages will affect specific areas daily: Highveld today, Highveld and Irene on Tuesday, and Telkom’s Highveld Head Office area on Wednesday according to the City’s schedule.

Residents and businesses must prepare for disruptions during work hours. “Customers are advised to treat all electricity supply points as live at all times,” municipal authorities cautioned.

Businesses face particular impact during peak operational hours due to the scheduled cuts, the City noted.

Tshwane apologized for the resulting inconvenience but called the outages unavoidable. “The City of Tshwane apologises profusely for the inconvenience that may be caused as a result of the mentioned work,” the statement concluded.
