Nomzamo Mbatha Thanks Fans as Shaka Ilembe Season 2 Concludes, Season 3 Confirmed

Actress and producer Nomzamo Mbatha thanked fans and colleagues as the historical drama Shaka Ilembe wrapped its second season.

Mbatha shared her gratitude on social media after the finale aired on 31 August. She posted: “Final episode tonight … You’ve stayed with us for 12 weeks feeling every feeling – rage, inspiration, love, redemption, pride, frustration, adventure, cinematic television achievement, grief – TRIUMPH. Thank you for your love MZANSI. Season Two was hard work and every single person involved in cast and crew put their hearts and livers into every frame we offered. Our well of gratitude does not run dry.”

In a Twitter post, Mbatha added: “Kanjalo nje… a wrap on Season Two of #ShakaIlembeS2 Ngithanda ukubonga kunina nonke for journeying with us for 12 Weeks on work that took many months to make, 20 000 jobs created since Season and retelling our history with love, respect, triumph, vigour and cinematic excellence. SIYABONGA ASIPHEZI…”

The acclaimed series celebrated for its storytelling and production values will return for a final season. Production company MultiChoice confirmed Season 3 is now in development (company statement).

According to a social media post by commentator Jabulani Macdonald (unverified), Season 3 will portray the dramatic end of Shaka’s reign through themes of “vision, glory, and betrayal”. Specific plot details claim an assassin’s spear breaks royal trust during a major gathering, while Queen Nandi hides a secret. The season also introduces British colonial forces at Port Natal. Mbatha will continue as both actor and executive producer.

The new season is scheduled to premiere on Mzansi Magic in 2026.
