June Steenkamp suffers stroke, in urgent need of financial help
PORT ELIZABETH — 2 September 2024
June Steenkamp, mother of murdered model Reeva Steenkamp, suffered a stroke requiring urgent financial support for medical care.
The Reeva Rebecca Steenkamp Foundation confirmed Steenkamp was admitted to a public hospital on Monday, 1 September. (Foundation social media post)
“She is facing a long road to recovery, and in need of considerable rehabilitation. To ensure June gets the necessary care and treatment, a fund has been set up for her care and rehabilitation. All payments will be approved by two independent attorneys and will be audited,” the foundation stated.
Her health crisis comes nearly two years after husband Barry Steenkamp died. The foundation said excess donations would support its gender-based violence work.

June revealed in the documentary My Name Is Reeva that Barry never recovered from their daughter’s death. An emotional Barry told The Mirror: “We want to be with Reeva and join her wherever she is. Our hearts are broken.”
Pistorius was released on parole last year after serving half his murder sentence.
