LaConco Voices Chilli in Bluey’s Zulu Dub

Former Housewives Star LaConco Voices Mom in isiZulu Bluey

Former Real Housewives of Durban star Nonkanyiso “LaConco” Conco is the new isiZulu voice of Chilli the mom in the beloved children’s show Bluey, bringing the character to life for young African viewers.

Entertainment commentator Phil Mphela announced on Twitter that Conco landed the role in the dubbed version of the BBC children’s series that premiered in four African languages today. BBC Studios confirmed the show is available in isiZulu, Afrikaans, Swahili and Nigerian Pidgin.

The award-winning cartoon follows adventures of Bluey, a playful puppy living with her parents and little sister. More children on the continent will see their family experiences reflected with these localised versions.

Conco described the voice-work as personal and meaningful, saying: “Voicing Chilli has been a deeply personal and joyful experience. Bluey’s stories are universal but hearing them in our own languages makes them feel even more special. It’s a gift to our children.”

Barbara Jerzyk Alvarez of BBC Studios emphasised the importance of the dubs: “Bluey has always celebrated the magic of everyday family life and now, more children can experience that magic in the language they speak at home.”

South African children can now enjoy the heartwarming series with Conco’s isiZulu narration on CBeebies Africa.
