
Three Durban Beaches Closed Due to Poor Water Quality

The eThekwini Municipality has announced three Durban beaches are temporarily closed for swimming due to unsafe water quality, while 20 others remain open.
Reunion, Doonside Beach and Winklespruit are currently closed to swimmers. The municipality stated: “You can still enjoy other recreational activities at closed beaches. You just can’t swim.”
Twenty beaches remain open daily between 06:00 and 18:30, including Umhlanga Main, Umgababa, uShaka, Addington, North Beach, South Beach and Battery Beach.
Forty public swimming pools across Durban are also accessible, operating Monday-Saturday (06:00-18:00) and Sundays/public holidays (09:00-17:00). Facilities include Durban North, Umlazi D, Lamontville, Westville, Buffelsdale and Verulam pools.
Water quality updates will be issued as conditions change. The municipality advises residents to confirm beach and pool status before visiting.
