Cape Town Opens Quick Drive-Through Licence Centre

Cape Town launches drive-through licence renewal centre in Brackenfell

Cape Town has opened its first drive-through vehicle licensing centre in Brackenfell to slash waiting times to under five minutes.

Located at the corner of Reservoir and Kruispad Roads, the facility handles motor vehicle licence renewals exclusively through quick drive-through transactions.

The centre operates Mondays to Fridays from 11:30 to 19:30 and Saturdays from 11:00 to 14:30. The City confirmed it is working with the Road Traffic Management Corporation to extend weekday hours even further.

“This new facility will cater exclusively for the renewal of motor vehicle licences. To ensure a more efficient service, it is cashless and accepts only debit and credit card payments,” said Mayco Member for Finance Councillor Siseko Mbandezi.

He added: “The drive-through aims to make life easier for motorists – you simply drive up, pay by card, receive your new disc and you can be on your way. Initial tests show the process can take less than five minutes.”

Motorists who received renewal notices via SMS need only present the message to complete the transaction. The City told residents to expect more innovations over the next year.

The drive-through forms part of recent service upgrades, including an online booking system for City branches. Brackenfell’s launch aims to position Cape Town as the most efficient licence renewal provider.
