Walmart will partner with South African suppliers and entrepreneurs to provide stock for its stores, according to its post-summit announcement.

Construction teams are preparing store locations nationwide, though officials indicate specific opening dates will only be confirmed in October 2025.

The government expects Walmart’s expansion to create jobs and boost economic growth, aligning with national priorities.

Walmart President and CEO Kath McLay stated: “Walmart will bring its signature Every Day Low Prices and global standards to the market, while celebrating the country’s rich culture.”

The company has held majority ownership of retail group Massmart since 2011, which includes local brands like Marko, Game, Jumbo and Builders.

Massmart CEO Miles van Rensburg added: “By listening and working together, we aim to build lasting relationships and deliver a delightful shopping experience that reflects the needs and aspirations of South Africans.”
