Annie Mthembu Opens Up About Healing Journey After Separation
DURBAN — Recent interview with TRUELOVE
Reality TV star Annie Mthembu has spoken about focusing on healing after leaving “The Real Housewives of Durban” spotlight temporarily. The mother of two revealed why she stepped back from public attention.
Annie explained: “The reason I chose silence for this period of time, I didn’t engage in any media really or do too much, is because I just needed to understand where I was first. Plan my life, understand what my next steps are and then also heal.” She prioritized her mental health and children.
Three years after her separation from Kgolo Mthembu, Annie described realizing the relationship environment wasn’t sustainable. “When you find yourself in a very toxic environment, I think one of the first things we try to do is we try to change it or we hope for change and we hope for better,” she told TRUELOVE.
Her children became her main motivation for leaving. “I think just when I realized that my kids at some point would also be affected by the situation in my home, I really had to say to myself, ‘Okay, I have to put them first.” She added: “Because what was happening in our home at the time was not a good environment for kids.”
Since the separation, both Annie and her children have flourished. Her six-year-old daughter and five-year-old son are now “much happier” and “more carefree,” she reported.
Annie reflected on lessons learned: “She really needed to learn a lot of self-worth. I think that she invested a lot into her relationship… I started dating him when I was 24 so I was still quite young.” She concluded: “So, ja, I think she just needed to, as I always say, have more vibes for herself.”
Faith guided her through challenges. “I always knew God has my back. God is going to make sure for me,” she shared, emphasizing spiritual obedience during difficult times.
Annie now balances business ventures with parenting, feeling stronger after prioritizing her wellbeing.
