Coldplay Eyes South Africa in 2027 World Tour Return
SOUTH AFRICA —
British rock band Coldplay may return to South Africa in 2027, with frontman Chris Martin hinting at upcoming southern African concerts during their Music of the Spheres world tour finale.
Martin confirmed the tour’s 2027 extension at London’s Wembley Stadium, announcing 138 new shows after a record-breaking run that began in March 2022 (Martin statement). The current tour has played to over 13 million fans across 211 shows, generating more than R25 billion in ticket sales (tour figures).
Coldplay last performed in South Africa in 2011, playing concerts in Cape Town and Johannesburg.
Martin’s mention of southern Africa raised hope among local fans for a local tour stop, though no dates or venues have been confirmed. If scheduled, the South African concerts could help the tour surpass Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour as the highest-grossing tour in history.
South African fans must await official confirmation, but indicators suggest the band’s return is possible.
Martin and his partner Dakota Johnson reportedly “called time on their on-and-off eight-year romance” in June this year (The South African report).
Coldplay formed in London in 1997 and consists of Chris Martin, Jonny Buckland, Guy Berryman, Will Champion and manager Phil Harvey. They’ve sold over 160 million records globally and were Spotify’s first act to reach 90 million monthly listeners (band history).
