Bongeziwe Mabandla Announces Intimate Solo Tour Across SA

Award-winning artist Bongeziwe Mabandla will perform intimate solo shows across South Africa from October 16, aiming to reconnect deeply with fans through stripped-down performances.

The solo tour marks a return to his folk roots, with Mabandla explaining: “I wanted to find a transition… to be a bit closer to the audience — to not be so far away.” He added that performing without a band feels “very stripping and very raw” but reveals songs’ true emotions.

Audiences will hear unreleased music from Mabandla’s upcoming fifth album, described as “very personal”. “It’s more introspective and more autobiographical,” he revealed, moving away from love-themed songs. The material was recorded over the past year after two years of writing.

Using minimal technology like Ableton software for subtle backing samples, Mabandla hopes venues from Durban’s Hue Café to Cape Town’s Wave Theatre foster connection. He noted fans often request intimate formats to experience his spiritual folk style.

The tour concludes with a November 19 London fundraiser for Bridges For Music, an organisation supporting young African musicians. “I love what they do,” said Mabandla of the collaboration.
