Cape Town 9-hr power outage planned

Cape Town areas face nine-hour power cuts for maintenance

The City of Cape Town warns parts of the city will experience nine-hour power outages on specific dates for essential infrastructure maintenance.

Maintenance crews will cut electricity either on Thursday, 18 September from 7:30 to 16:30 or on Thursday, 25 September during the same hours, depending on weather conditions.

Interruptions will only affect areas highlighted on the city’s outage map. View the map at: https://bit.ly/4okkvqF.

Impacted Bellville suburbs include Kanonberg, Oude Westhof, Van Riebeeckhof, Welgedacht and Protea Valley.

The City cautioned that power could be restored anytime during the maintenance window and urged residents to treat all electrical equipment as live.

“Residents are encouraged to switch off appliances as a precaution and to avoid damage caused by power surges when the power comes back on,” the City advised.

It apologised for inconvenience, saying: “The City of Cape Town apologises for any inconvenience caused and thanks residents for their cooperation and understanding.”
