
Cape Town’s Somerset Mall Plans Major Expansion for 2025
CAPE TOWN
Somerset Mall in Cape Town will expand its retail space and upgrade facilities, with the first phase set to complete in November 2025. Owner Hyprop confirmed the renovation aims to meet growing customer demand in Somerset West and the Western Cape.
The project will increase mall space by approximately 5,500 square meters. Over 50 new shops are planned to open during the expansion. (Hyprop statement)
“We’re excited to meet the growing demand here in Somerset West,” said Wayne Abegglen, Hyprop Portfolio Executive for the Western Cape. He added: “We’re bringing over 50 new stores, with a focus on athleisure and affordable luxury brands, plus a variety of new customer amenities to set a new standard for retail in the region.”
Sustainability measures will include solar power systems and water-saving technology. These green upgrades will meet international environmental standards. (Project details)
Shoppers can expect a redesigned layout, extended trading hours and ticketless parking. New charging stations for electric vehicles will also be installed.
Family facilities and dining options will be improved, with restroom renovations underway. The redesigned mall will feature an art mile including works by a renowned sculptor.
