Ciara Sends Love to Tyla After VMAs Dance

Tyla Wins Best Afrobeats at MTV VMAs and Steals Spotlight with Tiny Chanel Dress

South Africa’s Grammy-winning star Tyla clinched the Best Afrobeats award at the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards in New York while turning heads in a barely-there vintage Chanel minidress.

The singer wore a reconfigured corset top from Chanel’s 1993 Spring/Summer collection on Sunday night, styled as what fashion critics called “the tiniest minidress imaginable.” She paired it with layered Pandora gold jewellery and black shorts to avoid wardrobe mishaps (VMA red carpet observation).

Beyond her fashion statement, Tyla secured her first MTV VMA for Best Afrobeats, cementing her global music influence. The win comes after her historic Grammy victory earlier this year (MTV press release).

During the ceremony, Tyla shared the stage with American R&B icon Ciara, who danced with her and taught her moves from her new single “Low.” Ciara later tweeted: “I think you’re ready for more! Loved getting low with you @Tyllaaaaaaa 🫶🏽”

Their collaboration echoes Ciara’s earlier praise for Tyla. In an April 2025 L’Officiel USA interview, Ciara stated: “If I could collab with someone, I think it would be super cool to maybe work with Tyla. I think her music is really infectious and she makes people dance through her music, and for me it’s really important to make the world dance,” adding: “I think me and Tyla could wind it up a little bit, you know, do a little something, something together. It could be cute.”

Fans across Mzansi are now buzzing about a potential collaboration between the artists, hoping for a fusion of Ciara’s R&B style with Tyla’s amapiano-inspired sound.

Televised globally, the VMAs highlight Tyla’s ascent as both a musical powerhouse and fashion innovator from South Africa.
