Da Les Moves to US Post-Stroke Recovery

Da Les relocates to US after health scare, promises SA return

Rapper Da Les (Leslie Mampe Jr.) is moving to the United States following a 2024 stroke, but vows to return to South Africa.

The artist announced on his YouTube channel Da L.E.S Network: “We’re moving to Houston, Texas. I’m going out there to spend some time with my family in the States, but don’t worry SA, I’ll be back.”

A farewell gathering showed peers including rapper L-Tido supporting his move. L-Tido stated: “I know when you come back, everything is gonna be good. You know we got you, we love you. We got your back forever.”

The relocation follows a July 2024 health crisis where Da Les suffered a stroke on his 39th birthday. This abruptly cancelled planned celebrations at Rosebank nightclub Louis, with his family later confirming his stable condition. (Source: family statement at time)

In June 2025, Da Les publicly addressed the incident for the first time, revealing: “I suffered a stroke. People thought I was going to die. I made it.” He described a month-long hospitalization and ongoing rehabilitation.

The rapper explained his motivation for sharing: “I think right now, it’s just to motivate people… I want to help people because shit is real; it can happen to anybody.”

He reflected on the experience: “One minute, you’re cool; you’re like me; next minute, you experience the worst. I feel like my life has changed, but it ain’t the end.”

Da Les emphasized his gratitude: “I’m just lucky to be alive… I feel good. I feel happy that I’m still here,” adding that he aims to document his journey to inspire others.
