FNB Bank App Adds Smart ID and Passport Applications

FNB expands Home Affairs partnership for Smart IDs and passports

First National Bank (FNB) is extending its long-running collaboration with the Department of Home Affairs (DHA) to improve nationwide access to identity documents and travel papers.

Customers can now apply for first-time and re-issued Smart IDs and passports through both the FNB Banking App and physical bank branches starting immediately. (FNB statement)

In coming months, re-issuance submissions will move entirely to either the FNB app or DHA’s online booking system. Through the app, users may request replacements and select home delivery or branch collection.

Designated FNB branches continue providing photo capture, fingerprint services and document collection. The bank will soon add application tracking features to monitor progress.

Since the partnership began in 2015, seven FNB branches have processed over 570,000 Smart IDs and passports. (FNB statement)

FNB CEO Harry Kellan affirmed the bank’s commitment to supporting the government’s digital transformation goals through this decade-long alliance.

“FNB recognises how critical Smart IDs and passports are to all South Africans, whether for applying for basic services, opening bank accounts, seeking employment, or travelling,” said Kellan.

FNB Points of Presence CEO Zibu Nqala described the expansion as grounded in mutual dedication to accessible public services.

“We are proud to support the Department in delivering meaningful impact to communities across the country,” said Nqala.

The enhanced partnership aims to utilize FNB’s network and technology to serve millions more citizens.
