Isibaya Returns Thanks To Fan Vote

Hit drama series Isibaya returns to television screens after winning a nationwide viewer vote that ended this week.

The show secured 23.1% of total votes in Mzansi Magic’s public competition, beating rival series to reclaim its broadcast slot starting Monday, 22 September at 18:30.

Over several weeks, viewers determined which programme had most impacted them throughout Mzansi Magic’s 15-year history. Isibaya led the contest from its initial stages.

Mzansi Magic director Shirley Adonisi praised the result: “Isibaya was more than just a TV show, it was a cultural phenomenon that had its finger on the pulse of Mzansi local television.

“As we celebrate 15 years of Mzansi Magic, it warms our hearts to see our audiences celebrating the stories that became a part of their lives. This recognition is theirs, our viewers who have been with us from day one on this journey.”

The River came second with 15.5% of votes, followed by The Queen at 12.8%.

Originally airing from March 2013 to April 2021, Isibaya’s eight seasons featured iconic performances including Bheki Mkhwane (Samson Ndlovu) and Siyabonga Thwala (Mpiyakhe Zungu).

Fans can now rediscover the show’s gripping portrayal of taxi industry conflicts, family battles and isiZulu traditions.
