City Power Announces Planned Outages in 11 JHB Suburbs

Planned power cuts will hit 11 Johannesburg suburbs next month for essential maintenance work.

City Power will cut electricity for eight hours on Wednesday, 17 September 2025 and Saturday, 20 September 2025. The utility said: “The interruption is necessary to do maintenance work on our network, which is part of our programme of constantly striving to provide a better service,” (City Power).

Wednesday’s outage from 9:00 to 17:00 affects:
Bekker Street between Le Roux and Allandale Road, BP Filling Station, Thornhill Office Park and Waterfall Business Park.

Saturday’s outage from 8:00 to 16:00 covers:
Heriotdale, Heriotdale Extensions 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9, Doornfontein, New Doornfontein, Benrose Ext. 7, Denver, and Denver Extensions 1 and 9.

Separately, City Power disconnected a Van Wyk Street, Roodepoort customer for illegal connection and unpaid debt. The utility urged customers to settle bills and avoid illegal connections (City Power statement).

A business owing R1.2 million was disconnected after illegally reconnecting for the second time. City Power Bomb Squad member Vicky Shuping warned of arrests for illegal reconnections.

Shuping stated: “We are going to implement credit control now, and if we find that they have illegally reconnected, we are going to arrest them.”
