Lynn Forbes Opens Up About Love Life After AKA’s Death
JOHANNESBURG
Lynn Forbes, mother of late rapper AKA, has revealed her desire for companionship while sharing her journey of self-discovery following her son’s death.
Speaking on the Ikigai Awakening Podcast, Forbes shared her current relationship status: “I’m not married, I don’t have a partner and I’m not in a relationship.” She spoke about longing for simple comforts after her son Kiernan’s passing: “I missed somebody just running a bath for me. I just wanted to be held. I wanted to have somebody making a cup of tea for me and I didn’t want to do it myself. I still want that,” adding humorously, “If anybody’s out there.”
Forbes emphasized she isn’t actively seeking romance. “It’s not something I’m searching for. I believe that right now I just need to become the right person for the right person. For me first… And that’s my journey.” This focus on personal growth applies broadly: “I need to become the right friend… everybody that I want to attract in my life.”
Her reflections follow similar candid remarks earlier this year from ex-husband Tony Forbes, AKA’s father. On the Within The Hazel podcast, Tony acknowledged shortcomings during their marriage: “With Lynn and I, after 20 years of marriage, I wasn’t the best husband, let me just put this out there first.” He admitted, “I think her primary love language was spending time. At the time I was not spending quality time with her… I was doing me.”
While both have spoken openly about past struggles, Forbes’ words reveal her current path centres on healing through personal growth rather than seeking new relationships.
