Nkululeko Reveals Pain Watching Wife on Married at First Sight SA
JOHANNESBURG — As season enters week nine
Nkululeko Mahlangu says watching his wife Makoto Phumodi’s behaviour on Married at First Sight South Africa has caused him deep emotional pain. The participant shared his struggles in an exclusive interview during the show’s ninth week. (Mahlangu statement)
The Mzansi Magic reality show pairs strangers who marry immediately. Viewers watch at 6pm Sundays or on Showmax. Four couples feature this season.
Nkululeko described the distress of seeing televised footage: “Watching my wife embarrass herself thinking she’s belittling me but truly ruining her own image. It breaks me to see her destroy herself like this.” (Direct quote from interview)
He joined seeking a “humble and God-fearing woman”. While initially happy meeting Makoto, he prayed and fasted beforehand to approach the experiment with clear intentions. (Mahlangu statement)

He withholds some thoughts for the reunion show but enjoys following fellow couples Themba Khosa with Nelisa Ntabeni, and Portia Baloyi with Bongani Luvalo.
