Portia Baloyi: “I Wasn’t Ready for Marriage” at 21

Married at First Sight Mzansi’s Portia Baloyi has revealed her first marriage ended because she was too young and unprepared for the responsibilities. She shared these personal details on The Relebogile Mabotja Podcast.

Portia explained that her first husband was 12 years older. “I met this guy older than me… you know I’m a baby around him,” she said. At first, she admired his protective nature.

However, Portia stressed she wed too young at 21. “I wasn’t ready to be a wife. I wasn’t ready to be a mother,” she stated. Marriage brought instant restrictions: “You can’t go out… you can’t wear that.”

The reality star felt stifled: “It’s like, so everything just changed. I still want to go out. I still want to groove. So that wife that he wanted, then it’s this person now. Then I wasn’t that person.”

Portia also addressed her recent Married at First Sight marriage to Bongani Luvalo. “With social media, they think that the marriage ended because of the things I said about him,” she noted. “Our marriage ended way before the show aired.”

She described a turning point with Luvalo: “When he couldn’t handle me when I was hurt… I told him that you hurt me.” (No response from Luvalo at time of publication).

Portia told podcast listeners her honest reflections resonated with fans who praised her openness.
