Prince Kaybee Sparks Online Feud After Calling Cassper Nyovest “A Gimmick”

Award-winning producer Prince Kaybee has ignited social media controversy after publicly dismissing rapper Cassper Nyovest as “a gimmick” during a Twitter exchange. The DJ, real name Kabelo Motsamai, questioned Nyovest’s musical credentials in unprovoked comments that divided fans.

The dispute began when Twitter user @Tlats_OVO tweeted: “I’m ready to admit something I’ve denied for too long. AKA was a better rapper than Cassper 🤧.” Prince Kaybee responded directly: “I don’t understand how ANYONE in this world thinks cassper is a musician nor a rapper, WTF man.”

When challenged by user @BastardZuma asking “What is he to you?”, the producer doubled down, replying: “A gimmick.” He further elaborated: “He is a gimmick, more a culture camouflage than anything really. Does he have hits?, yes, as a gimmick.”

Nyovest’s supporters immediately defended the rapper. User @TheoMillie_ countered: “Pretending as if Cass didn’t resurrect a dying genre and literally became the biggest artist in the country and one of the biggest artists in the continent for several years is genuinely retardation… 100% bigger than you.” (social media post).

Another fan, @blackmamba_nam, listed Nyovest’s achievements including: “More success”, “Travelled the world more” and “More awards” compared to Prince Kaybee (social media post). Cassper Nyovest hasn’t publicly responded (no response available at time of publication).

Prince Kaybee’s remarks triggered fierce debate about artistry and success metrics in South African music. While some agreed with his critique, others like @unclesplanet urged perspective: “There’s a different angle to enjoy their music; if you don’t vibe with it, let that be your own opinion” (social media post).

The exchange highlights ongoing tensions in the industry, with Kaybee’s comments drawing both support and accusations of jealousy from Nyovest’s fanbase.
