Rachel Kolisi wins Women of Wonder award for social justice work
CAPE TOWN — 30 August
Rachel Kolisi, the former wife of Springbok captain Siya Kolisi, has received a Women of Wonder (WOW) Award for her social justice and community work. She was honoured at the 11th annual WOW ceremony held in Cape Town.
The global awards celebrate women who inspire through leadership, philanthropy, and social impact, with events hosted in cities including Cape Town, Dubai, London, and Johannesburg.
Award organisers described Rachel as “a dynamic and influential leader, recognised for her dedication to social justice, philanthropy, and community empowerment.” They stated: “Rachel’s focus on gender-based violence has led to the implementation of initiatives that provide support and resources to survivors while advocating for systemic change.” (according to The Citizen)
Rachel co-founded the Kolisi Foundation in 2021 with her ex-husband to combat gender-based violence while supporting education, sports development, and food security initiatives.
Sharing her joy on Instagram, Kolisi wrote: “So incredibly grateful to have received an award from @womenofwonder_aw / @panachewowawards. It was such a beautiful evening celebrating so many amazing people doing powerful work in SA.”
For the “diamonds and decadence”-themed event, she wore jewellery borrowed from Browns Jewellers, posting: “My @brownsjewellers family allowed me to wear some of their most celebrated pieces.”
Her recognition highlights achievements beyond her identity as a rugby player’s former partner, cementing her position as an advocate for equality and community development.
