SASSA Confirms September 2025 Old Age Grant Payment Date
PRETORIA — 28 August 2025
SASSA will pay September’s Old Age Grants on Tuesday, 2 September 2025 after several longer payment cycles.
Beneficiaries won’t face extended waits as in recent months. This payment could be the last before October’s expected but unconfirmed increase.
All recipients must verify their accounts to prevent delays. SASSA introduced stricter income checks in June to reduce fraud.
Officials investigated over 250,000 ‘core’ grant recipients for exceeding income thresholds (SASSA statement). Affected beneficiaries received SMS notices requesting in-person verification.
The agency added a fourth monthly payment date (first Fridays) to avoid disruptions. SASSA CEO Temba Matlou instructed senior staff to assist with income verification.
SASSA warned about illegal deductions including possible fraudulent funeral policies charging R165 monthly. “it will never make a deduction from your grant monies with authorisation.”
Increased 2025 income limits are R107,800 (single) and R215,760 (married). Asset thresholds rose to R1,524,600 (single) and R3,049,200 (married) (source not provided).
New applicants must apply in person at SASSA offices. Required documents include:
- Official RSA ID;
- Marital status proof;
- Residence confirmation (utility bill);
- Income and asset documentation;
- Private pension declaration;
- Certified bank statements (not older than three months);
- UIF membership book or discharge certificate;
- Will and estate documents if applicable.
Processing typically takes three months. Unsuccessful applicants have 90 days to appeal.
Future 2025 payment dates: 2 October (potential increase), 4 November, and 2 December. Recipients exceeding income limits must repay funds through lump sums, debit orders, or interest-accruing payment plans (source not provided).
Editor’s note: Claim of 20% limit increase omitted after verification discrepancy.
