Sue Forge Appointed New Comrades Marathon Race Director

The Comrades Marathon Association (CMA) has named Sue Forge as its new Race Director. Her appointment follows a strategic restructuring to maintain the global status of the world’s oldest ultramarathon.

With growth increasing the event’s complexity, the CMA separated the General Manager and Race Director roles. This aims to strengthen focus on runner safety, innovation, and experience for local and international participants.

An independent recruitment committee oversaw the selection, receiving over 100 applications. Experts in mass events, HR, legal, and finance shortlisted candidates before rigorous interviews led to Forge’s unanimous board approval.

Forge brings 20+ years’ experience, including roles as Race Director for the Absa Run Your City Series and COO of the Two Oceans Marathon. CMA Chairperson Mqondisi Ngcobo said, “Sue brings unparalleled expertise, a proven track record in major sporting events, and a passion for the running community that will help us deliver unforgettable experiences for runners and spectators alike.”

Reporting to General Manager Alain Dalais, Forge will collaborate with CMA staff. Dalais stated: “Sue brings a wealth of experience, passion and dedication to this role. I know that the Comrades community will all benefit from this appointment.”

Forge assumes full duties on 1 November 2025. The timing positions her to prepare for the 99th race and the historic 2026 centenary. She remarked, “It is an honour to take on the role of Race Director. The Comrades Marathon is more than just a race, it is a symbol of endurance, camaraderie, and South African spirit.”
